Today we went to take a walk in the Lange Reihe in the area of Sankt Georg. The Lange Reihe is a nice street in Hamburg where there are some Bars, Coffeshops, Alternative shops for clothes, Fast food restaurants (Subway is here), Italian and Portuguese restaurants, bookshops, etc. It is also known as the Gay Area of Hamburg.
On Fridays there is a Bio Markt where, naturally, you can buy all sorts of bio products: vegetables, fruits, sausages (of course), cheese, bread, etc.
It is a very nice area. And it is just some streets away from the Alster Lake/River. It is also some meters away from the Hauptbahnhof (the main train station). The photo was taken at the beginning of the Lange Reihe coming from the Hauptbahnhof.

Hi! My wife is going to be traveling in Europe this summer staying in Amsterdam for several days and then traveling by train to Copenhagen. The train ride is 15 hours, which seemed a bit long, so I suggested that she stay for a few days in Hamburg. I have a few questions. First, she wanted to find an economical but clean hotel within walking distance of the train station and restaurants. Is there a hotel that you can recommend? We found the Arcotel Rubin Hotel. The address appears to be Steindamm 63, 20099, and the web site says that the hotel is near the train station. We are not sure if there are multiple train stations in Hamburg. Since my wife does not speak German, she is hoping to avoid the need to travel far to and from the train station and hotel. By the way, do you think that not knowing any German is going to be a problem for her? Thanks for any help you can provide!
Hello Terry
The hotel looks fine and looks like it has nice reviews in Trip Advisor. The problem is, the Hotel is located in the same street where several sexshops are. Around the hotel there are no sexshops, in fact just in front there is a police station, but just one or two streets upward, direction the main train station, is where these shops are, and some prostitutes as well.
I'd recommend the Ibis Hamburg Alster better, is closer to the Train Station, and is just around the Alster Lake. I stayed there with my wife before we came to Hamburg. You might get a good rate, we paid around 60 euros per night.
The language should not be a problem at all. If you have any more quesions, feel free to ask.
