This is the last post about our visit to the Altes Land around Hamburg.
After some hours riding and pedalling the bike, I started to think, is it long before our tour is finished? We had a small tachometer which indicated around 30 kilometers already, and I was getting tired. My wife told me then, we just have to do a small round here and then we can take the ferry to cross the Elbe to Blankenese, to then take the S-Bahn home.
We went through some small nice towns, and then we reached the spot where the ferry was supposed to leave from. But there was a long queue of people with their bikes waiting as well. After waiting for some minutes, I suggested us to go back to Finkenwerder, the beginning of our trip to the Altes Land, and take the ferry there. I was sure there was not going to be enough place for everybody in the ferry.
That was not the best decision.
On the way to Finkenwerder we crossed again a bridge we had crossed before. As you can see in the photos above. And now it was opening to let a small yatch to pass under. It was impressive as it was such a huge bridge. Everybody, locals and tourists as myself, was looking at the big machine with the mouths open.
While waiting for the bridge, I took a photo of a factory of cruises that was just next to it. I am sorry, it is not such a good photo, but you still can see the shape of a cruise been built. I was once in another factory around where the parents of my wife live and it was impressive.
Anyway, we kept on and kept on and kept on. I did not remember at all how long the way was. And when we finally were in Finkenwerder, the tachometer indicated more than 40 kms. My legs were hurting a lot, not to mention other parts of my body. We had an ice cream waiting for the ferry. Once it came and we went inside, I took a last photo of our tour to the Altes Land. The photo on our way home, on the ferry, on the Elbe.
But it was not the end of the pedalling. We decided then to ride the bicycles home and once we were here, we noticed we had rode 50 kilometers with the bikes, most of it on the tour around the Altes Land. Let's see where we go next.
Once again, I thank the reader who suggested the trip to the Altes Land. The spring this year is wonderful in Germany, the birds are singing, everybody is happy, I have a job interview today and this weekend we will have some typical German asparagus. More about that later.
Enjoy your weekend and thanks for reading!
