I am dividing the post of our visit to Bremen in two parts. Here I will refer to the city in general, and in the second post to one of my new findings of the city.
Bremen is one hour and a half away from Hamburg, if you take the Regional train, which is the cheapest way to visit Bremen on a weekend. In a car or a normal train, it can be quicker of course and more comfortable. Be careful not to take the regional train when the fans of Werder Bremen are coming back from a game, as they can be very very noisy and a little bit annoying or agressive if they are drunk.
Downtown Bremen is at a walking distance from the train station, just walk straight and you are in downtown. Here in Bremen is also an airport from where Ryanair flies to several cities in Europe. Just in front of the main train station is where you can take the Tram or Strassenbahn that will take you to the entrance of Bremen Airport. And the other way around.
Not to be missed in Bremen are the Cathedral, the Rathaus or City Hall, the Schnoor (a little bit difficult to find but 100% worth it), the Hachez Chocolates shop and, what every tourist comes to see in Bremen: the Statue of the "Die Bremer Stadtmusikante" or The Musicians of Bremen, from the tale of, who else?, the Brothers Grimm. Above are two photos. I was lucky I did not include a tourist on the photo, as loads or people wait to get their photos taken next to the statue.
One more place not to be missed, and that I had not seen before, been this my seventh or eight visit to Bremen, is the Böttcherstraße. Please come back later for my post about this place, or read my next post. It was one of those moments when you see something totally absolutely new, that you were not expecting.
