Living in Germany: 4 months later

Today I am going to do a sum up of what has happened in the last weeks in my life here in Germany. I arrived on the last days of January and now, mid may, is perhaps time for looking back to see what has happened in the last months. First of all, I must say, I don't regret at all coming to Germany to live. Perhaps I have had my moments of wondering, was it the best moment to come? was it the correct city? Should I have had waited a little bit more before coming to Germany? I have the answer now. It was the right moment and it was the correct city.

First of all, if I really wanted to learn German, there was no better way to do it. Come here to Germany to learn the language. I am already on my third course of German, I forgot to mention that recently. Last week began my new German class. Luckily enough, I have the same teacher as the previous cours and three of the classmates from the last course kept on as well. My level of the language is progressing, now I can watch the TV and understand, something I would not have imagined in January.

As I mentioned on my previous posts, I was able to speak some German at the bank, in some Government offices, in some restaurants, and, most of important of all, at some job interviews. I had my first job interview, part in German part in English some days ago. Last friday I had a second one, where the person spoke only in German and some small bits in English and I spoke 65% in German I could say. Just the thought of this, assures me that it was indeed the best decision to come here. As I said to some of my friends, I just don't want to be one of those persons who are planning and planning of coming to Germany to improve the language but never do.

Something some of the people who know me and read this blog, may have noticed that I picked up again the camera and started taking photos again. Somehow Germany and Hamburg (Berlin is also a city that pushes me to take photos), motivate me and inspire me to go out and take photos. That did not happen in Barcelona, and in Dublin I was going everywhere with my camera. Here in Hamburg, I have so many photos waiting to be published on this blog!!

And the weather keeps getting better. One big big advice: if you plan to visit Germany, do it in summer. Germany is specially nice in summer. If you plan to come to live in Germany, come during winter, don't come before winter if you can. Otherwise you are going to experience deep depressing Germany during the first months of your stay, which, no matter in which country you are, will be difficult to get used to. But if you come in mid winter, you will experience the christmas markets and the new year.

You will also witness the change of threes with no leaves, as the ones in front of my house, to their full blossom and green colour. You will experience Germany in winter, when around 17:00 is dark alredy, and in mid spring now, when around 21:00 is not dark yet. The life in Germany is good.

And it migth get better!

Hi.

I don't think that the winter is depressing - I like it !
Stormy cloudy days are great to be on your couch with your darling or alone, with a good book. I like the difference of the seasons here!!!

bonito lo que dices...es cierto que alemania en invierno es horrible....and christmas markets help, but don´t make up for it...
but then, the change to full spring is hallucinating and it's the best time of year - everything comes back to life and oneself comes back to life :), something you won´t experience that way living in more moderate climates like barcelona - but then here you don´t have a harsh winter, so....
freut mich, dass es euch gut geht und dir dein leben in hamburg gefällt!
