Peterstrasse in Hamburg, Germany

Peterstraße street in Hamburg, around Der Michel, around St. Pauli

Don't you just love when you walk around a city you think you know and suddenly you find streets and places you never thought existed? I think it is one of the reasons why I love to walk in the cities where I live. To explore and be surprised. And that's the case for Hamburg as well.

Some days ago I got that feeling when I was walking around Der Michel and the St. Pauli neighborhood and I found myself in front of the image of the first photo above. I thought to my self: didn't the Britsh and the Americans destroyed all the old buildings in Hamburg? during the bombing in the Second world war?

Yes, they did. And probably this houses are all rebuilt years after the bombings. But what a suprise the buildings were. They are so unique and different. Since I "discovered" them, I have been back a couple of times.

This area of old (rebuilt) houses is located on the Peterstraße, north of Der Michel. There are some shops and a restaurant. And when the weather is good, you can sit outside and enjoy some drinks. So far, I have seen 3 of these areas with this kind of old architecture in Hamburg: behind Der Michel, around Gänsemarkt and this one in the Peterstraße.

I will keep on walking a lot, waiting for more suprises around the corner in Hamburg.
