It is already almost half a year since I've been living in Hamburg and I have not had the change of writing about the Reeperbahn, the most famous street of Hamburg. We visited because the friend that came to visit, and we wanted to show her the area. And no visit is complete to Hamburg without a visit to the Reeperbahn. Regardless if you are interested on nightclubbing or not.
The Reeperbahn is THE place where Hamburgers (citizens of Hamburg that is), Germans, and tourists come to party and to get drunk. You will hear several languages while walking on the street: German, English, Turkish, Arabic, Russian, Spanish, French, Polish... And that day particularly Russian was spoken because they had defeated Greece at the Euro 2008. And loads of people were celebrating: Russians and no Russians as well.
What does the Reeperbahn has to offer? Music, Nightclubs, Sexshops, Cafes, Bars, Theaters, Museums, Live music, Restaurants, Table Dance, Strippers, Prostitutes, and many many etceteras. Don't worry, eveything is heavily regulated. Don't forget! You are in Germany. You won't get in any trouble only if you are looking for it.
The Reeperbahn was one of the first venues (international as well) were the Beatles played. And it is here from where the people go after drinking the whole night, to the Hamburg Fishmarkt around 06:00 or 07:00 in the morning.
To get to the Reeperbanh you must take the S-Banh and get down at the station of the same name or take the metro and get down in St. Pauli. Around the corner is the begining of the Reeperbanh. You can say the the Reeperbanh is sandwiched between St. Pauli and Altona.
Here is a small video of the Reeperbahn:
